Seeta Giri, Humanitarian Advisory Group.
(Re-scheduled from 19 August due to technical issues!).
World Humanitarian Day (WHD) is held every year on 19 August to pay tribute to aid workers who risk their lives in humanitarian service, and to rally support for people affected by crises around the world.
It’s hard to put into words exactly what humanitarians encounter on the job. The impact that they have. The lives they change. The personal sacrifices they make. It’s a job where there really is no ‘switching off’ – in emergency situations, there are no half days or overtime.
AIIA Victoria’s Women in International Affairs series celebrates the achievements of women in international relations, reflects critically on the barriers women face, and meets extraordinary women currently forging careers in the international arena.
To mark World Humanitarian Day, AIIA Victoria invites you to join Seeta Giri, a world expert on post-crisis response and recovery to speak about her career journey and its highlights.
Seeta Giri is Regional Advisor, Asia at Humanitarian Advisory Group and has worked progressively for over twenty years in various policy advisory and programme management positions with the United Nations and INGO. She comes with a comprehensive background in the field of Climate Change, Crisis Prevention, Response and Recovery. Seeta has over 14 years of field-based experience leading post crisis response and recovery work with the United Nations in Afghanistan, Cambodia, Bangladesh, Myanmar, Serbia, Sierra Leone, Nepal and Pakistan. Among other professional affiliations with universities and research institutions, Seeta is currently serving as a member to the Advisory Board of the Culture and Disaster Action Network (CADAN).
This event is online only. Registrations close on Tuesday 25 August at 2pm, after which you will receive a follow-up email containing details of how to join the Zoom webinar. The webinar will commence at 5pm AEST (Melbourne time, UTC+10).
AIIA Victoria gratefully acknowledges the Walter Mangold Trust Fund for its ongoing support of our young members.
